Alpacas are usually white in color though there are various other colored alpacas also available like in browns and fawn colors. On the other hand, the fiber produced by the Huacaya alpaca is quite dense and soft. The alpaca fiber may become thicker in case the animal is exposed to over nutrition. Warm clothing made form alpacas fibers are in high demand among outdoor sport buffs and its light weight and warmth are perfect for this purpose.

In the end, I decided I wouldn´t make a mad dash for the mountain but would have a wander round the hotel grounds and a leisurely breakfast before getting the 8.30 bus which would give me time before the hordes arrived at 9.40. However, I was dismayed to see a train pulling in just as I was walking through the station so I hastened my pace to beat the masses to the buses. There were quite a few people there by the time I arrived but it was generally quiet and I came across a chinchilla sitting on some rocks. I then met the younger Lebby´s who had hiked up Huanay Picchu that morning. I´d toyed with the idea for some fantastic photographs but, since it was already warm and there were places I wanted to see, I decided it wasn´t for me. I had my guidebook with me and wandered around in no particular order - getting to vantage points and looking out for places to see. I´d wanted to find a series of rooms and went up steps and down corridors looking for them but it seemed like I was in a maze.
